Career
New Mexico’s most beloved and most complicated fighter: a three-division world champion who held WBO and IBF super flyweight, WBA and WBO bantamweight and IBF featherweight titles. His 1999 fight with Paulie Ayala was Ring Magazine’s Fight of the Year. Inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2017, five years after his death in 2012 at the age of 45.
