Southwest Fight News
A New Mexico combat sports desk: news, results, a fighter database and the photo archive from a decade of local cards.
What this is
Coverage of professional and amateur MMA, boxing and bare-knuckle across New Mexico — Albuquerque, Las Cruces, Santa Fe, Rio Rancho, the casino circuit at Ohkay Owingeh, Isleta, Santa Ana and Mescalero, and the rooms in Clovis, Hobbs, Gallup and Farmington that never make anyone’s schedule.
New Mexican vs. NM-connected
The roster splits in two and the site never blurs the line. A New Mexican was born or raised here. An NM-connected fighter came from somewhere else and built, based or camped a career in New Mexico gyms — Jon Jones, Donald Cerrone, Rashad Evans, Cub Swanson, Aaron Pico and the rest of the Jackson Wink roll call.
Both belong in the state’s fight history and both are in the database, colour-coded and filterable. Claiming the second group as ours would be the fastest way for a local publication to lose credibility, so we don’t. Where a connection is only camp-level or a gym’s roster listing — St-Pierre, Penn, Ferguson, Mir — the profile says so.
Three names were considered and left out because no Albuquerque connection could be confirmed at all: Bo Nickal, Heather Clark and Ismail Israilov.
How records are sourced
Compiled from Wikipedia, sanctioning bodies, Sherdog, Tapology, UFC.com, FightNews, Boxing New Mexico and local press. Anything marked † predates a known comeback, conflicts between sources, or could not be confirmed twice.
Known gaps: BoxRec’s pro pages are login-walled and Tapology returns stale New Mexico data. The real fix is the New Mexico Athletic Commission’s own sanctioning records, which we’re pursuing.
Photographs
Curated sets are hosted here at full quality. Complete albums stay on Facebook and are linked, never embedded — embedded content is invisible to search, gets re-compressed, and puts the archive behind someone else’s API policy.
Photographers keep their copyright. We publish with credit, non-exclusively, and we don’t resell anyone’s frames.
