Career
The greatest light heavyweight New Mexico has claimed and arguably the best in the division’s history: undisputed champion from 1968 to 1974 with fourteen title defenses, won with a fourth-round knockout of Dick Tiger. Moved up to challenge both Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali. Member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame’s inaugural class in 1990; later a Bernalillo County Sheriff’s detective. Died in Albuquerque in 2015.
